The important Season of Advent has begun. It is that special time each year when we prepare our hearts to welcome Christ at Christmas.
It so happens that in this Second Week of Advent, we will have two days when we honor Mary, the Mother of God, in very important ways. On Monday we will observe the Immaculate Conception of the Blessed Virgin Mary. We recall how Mary was especially prepared by God to be the Mother of Jesus Christ.
Later in the week, we honor Mary as Our Lady of Guadalupe. Here we see Mary as the Patroness of all the Americas. We especially join with Hispanic Communities of Faith in this wonderful way.
Thank you also for your generosity toward the national collection for Retired Religious. Sisters, brothers and priests of religious communities need our prayer and support.
As we continue to prepare for Christmas, let’s not forget the real meaning for the season – God became one of us, and dwelt among us . . . and still does today!
And let us continue to pray for one another.
