A Special Spiritual Family
We can think of our family as sometimes being a blessing and sometimes being a challenge! But the two concepts of “blessing” and “challenge” often go together. Who knows us better than our family? Who can challenge us better than our family to truly be honest and good?
We also belong, as Catholics, to a Family of Faith. The Church is a special spiritual family that is rooted in the love of Christ. In baptism, we become members of this family of faith. Every weekend, as we profess the Creed together, after the homily, we are reminded of this…we are part of God’s family, through Jesus Christ, in the power of the Holy Spirit, in a very special way.
This is why we make the “Sign of the Cross”. It is to remind us of our baptism into our church family, “In the Name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit”. When we receive a blessing at Mass or bless ourselves before we pray the Rosary, for example, we are reminding ourselves of our baptism into the death and resurrection of Jesus.
May all of our prayers and good works lead us closer to Almighty God and the great promise we have of Eternal Life!
And let us continue to pray for one another.
