Strive to be faithful citizens

What is our obligation to patriotism to our country? We ask this question in the United States, but Catholics throughout the world have to ask the same question. What does it truly mean to be a person of faith and a faithful citizen in any land?

Sometimes there is a tension between our citizenship and our discipleship in Christ.

We believe that many things in our country that are legal are really immoral…..we can think of all kinds of examples, but let’s not make a list.

But we also know, that just because something is legal, it doesn’t make it right. We don’t have to participate in any reality that is legal, but immoral.

As people of faith, then we must be careful in what we advocate and being good or wrong, according to the teachings of our church.

Yes, we “render to Caesar what is Caesar’s”, but we also encourage our state and nation to have moral laws and principles.

May God give us the grace of discernment as we strive to be faithful citizens and evangelizing disciples in our day.

And let us continue to pray for one another.
