The Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary
Many people in Florida love to be on the water. Whether in the gulf, on the bay or in a river, we know that boating and other activities like this are very popular. So, our Gospel reading this weekend is one that we can certainly understand. Jesus helps his disciples when a storm comes up and they are in need in a boat. Peter is even able to walk on water because of his great faith. And even when that faith weakens, Jesus is there to support him.
There’s a lesson there for us, isn’t there. We are in that boat of our daily life experiences. Sometimes we too can falter. But Christ is always there to rescue us, support us and give us confidence. That is what faith is really all about . . . knowing the love of Jesus in our lives each and every day.
This week we observed a special Holy Day. The Feast of the Assumption of Mary was Tuesday, August 15, a
wonderful opportunity to give thanks to God for the role of Mary in salvation history. We believe that she now has a special place in heaven, and she certainly has a special place in the hearts of all believers!
And let us continue to pray for one another.
