The Transfiguration of the Lord
This weekend we observe the Feast of the Transfiguration of the Lord. We are reminded in our Gospel reading of how Jesus showed himself to be the Son of God to Peter, James and John on the mountain.
I would use this Gospel reading with young people whenever they went on a retreat. It was an opportunity for them to have a kind of “mountain experience” of the presence of Jesus Christ. A retreat or prayer service would be a way to come to know Jesus better as the three disciples did.
That is something for all of us to think about. What experiences do we have that bring us closer to Christ. Certainly, the Celebration of the Eucharist does that. That’s why we are here on the weekend to draw closer to Jesus and to know better his love for us. St. Cecelia Parish provides many ways for us to come to have a more powerful personal experience of the Lord. Let’s make sure we are aware of those ways and we take advantage of every opportunity to know Christ better.
In a special way this week, we are praying for all of our students returning to school for the new school year. May they grow closer to Christ as they learn about the world and their faith in the upcoming year!
And let us continue to pray for one another.
