Nos entristece profundamente la noticia del fallecimiento de Mons. Aiden Foynes, párroco emérito de St. Cecelia, ocurrido el 20 de agosto de 2026 tras sufrir varios accidentes cerebrovasculares mientras estaba hospitalizado. Su fiel servicio y su bondad permanecerán para siempre en nuestros corazones.![]()
Mons. Aiden era originario de Irlanda, el séptimo de ocho hermanos. Fue ordenado sacerdote en Kilkenny (Irlanda) el 4 de junio de 1961 para la Diócesis de St. Augustine. Pasó a formar parte del clero de la Diócesis de St. Petersburg tras su creación en 1968. Su ministerio sacerdotal incluyó el servicio como vicario parroquial en St. Cecelia, Our Lady of Lourdes (Dunedin) e Incarnation (Sarasota); posteriormente, fue párroco de Espiritu Santo (Safety Harbor) y Our Lady Queen of Peace (New Port Richey), antes de regresar a St. Cecelia en 1993, donde sirvió hasta su jubilación en 2005. We are deeply saddened by the news that Msgr. Aiden Foynes, Pastor Emeritus of St. Cecelia, passed away on August 20, 2026, after suffering several strokes while in the hospital. His faithful service and kindness will stay in our hearts forever.![]()
Msgr. Aiden is a product of Ireland, the seventh of eight children. He was ordained in Kilkenny, Ireland on June 4, 1961, for the Diocese of St. Augustine. He became a priest of the Diocese of St. Petersburg after its establishment in 1968. His priestly ministry includes parochial vicar at St. Cecelia, Our Lady of Lourdes in Dunedin and Incarnation in Sarasota, and he later served as pastor of Espiritu Santo, Safety Harbor and Our Lady Queen of Peace, New Port Richey, before returning to St. Cecelia in 1993, where he served until his retirement in 2005. Monsignor Foynes also taught at Cardinal Mooney High School, Sarasota, and later at Clearwater Central Catholic, where he was also president, and served on numerous diocesan boards and committees during his 44 years of active ministry. In August 1999, he was appointed as Prelate of Honor of His Holiness, by Pope John Paul II. In 2014, his brother priests honored him with the Father Luis de Cancer Award for Distinguished Priestly Service. Most recently, we celebrated here with Msgr. Aiden on his 65th Anniversary of Priestly Ordination.![]()

Let us always remember Msgr. Aiden in prayer. He brought God's love to so many, and we will all miss him dearly. "Eternal rest grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. Amen."
