Feast of the Ascension

This weekend we celebrate the Feast of the Ascension. We call to mind that even though Jesus is no longer physically with us on the earth, He is with us in so many meaningful ways spiritually. We can think of His divine presence in the Word of God, which we hear proclaimed at every Mass. We can also think of His presence in the sacraments of the Church that bring us nearer to Him. The Feast of the Ascension reminds us of how close Jesus desires to be with us as His disciples. Let’s always reach out to Him, because of His great love and care for us!

This Sunday, there is also a special Mass for all those who were baptized into another Christian tradition, who have now joined the Catholic Church this year. Bishop Gregory Parkes will be welcoming them in a special way at the Cathedral of St. Jude in a Mass at 11:30 a.m. this Sunday morning. May God continue to bless these new Catholics in their journey of faith.

May the Ascension help us remember that Jesus is always with us and that His grace suffices for our needs.

And let us continue to pray for one another.
