During this coming week, on July 11, we will celebrate the Feast of St. Benedict. He was the founder of monasteries in the western Church and is known as a great man of prayer.
We are fortunate to have a Benedictine monastery in our diocese … St. Leo Abbey which is in Pasco County near San Antonio. The monks there were early pioneers in bringing the faith to this part of Florida. St. Leo University is a product of their hard spiritual work in our area.
St. Benedict is known the by the motto, “Ora et Labora”….”Work and Prayer”. When we think of our own spiritual lives, we know that work and prayer are the ways in which we seek to please God.
This weekend, then, let us remember the importance of these two values. In Christ’s name, we work and pray for the salvation of the world. May the inspiration of saints like St. Benedict continue to inspire us in the years to come! I think of so many of our parishioners who work and pray each day to make St. Cecelia Parish a true presence of Christ’s love in this area … thank you so much!
And let us continue to pray for one another.
