Common Courtesy
In order to make the celebration of the Mass more conducive to prayer, to preserve the sacredness of our liturgies and to ensure the comfort of all those who are gathered, we offer a few gentle reminders of simple church etiquette. These are not meant to convey church doctrine, but rather provide reminders of common sense and courtesy toward our brothers and sisters in Jesus Christ.
Church Etiquette
Arriving On Time & Parking
We ask that you make every attempt to arrive on time (or even early) to Mass. St. Cecelia Church welcomes several hundred Summer tourists and Winter residents each year, so please remember to allow yourself enough time for parking and extra time if you need to drop off your children in the nursery.
We ask that you observe "handicapped only" parking signs and other city street signs that prohibit parking. F.S. 318.14 provides for a fine up to $255.00 for drivers who illegally park in designated handicapped parking spaces.
Entering the Church
Think about this: When you are entering the church for Mass, people all over the world are entering churches at the same moment. We are all worshiping together as One Body in Christ. Enter with reverance and joy and thankfulness for what you are about to receive and participate in!
Leaving Early?
Leaving church before the Prayer after Communion and Dismissal ignores an important part of the Mass. At the dismissal, we celebrate our commission as set forth by Jesus Christ Himself. His last words to His disciples were "Therefore, go out and make disciples of all nations... And behold, I am with you until the end of the age." (Matthew 28:19-20)
The Mass has a beginning ("In the name of the Father ...") and an end ("Go in peace to love and serve the Lord..."). Please stay and accept God's blessings!
Proper Attire
In all areas of our lives, we should offer Christ our best, and the same is true of our attire during Sunday Mass. Our dress should always be becoming of a Christian - especially at church.
Phones, Pagers, Handheld Computers?
Please remember to turn off all handheld computers and communication devices before entering the church.
