Adult Religious Education Programs
Robin Babka, (727) 447-3494
The 2011-2012 adult religious education programs have identical classes meeting Mondays at 7:00 p.m. or Tuesdays at 9:30 a.m., and last about an hour and a half, depending on the specific program. All classes have a video talk given by a famous Catholic speaker and time for class discussion based on the workbook. This year each program will cost $25.00 to cover the cost of materials.
For all classes, you will need a Catholic Bible and it is recommended that you have a Catechism of the Catholic Church, but some catechisms will be available for use in class.
Registration is in the church office in Larkin Center. Paperback Catholic Bibles are available for $7.00 and large paperback Catechisms are available for $20.00.
For all classes, early registration is encouraged so that you will have your materials and will be able to complete the readings for the first assignment before the first class meets.
Adult Religious Education and Bible Study
September 12/13 to October 10/11
A Biblical Walk Through The Mass by Dr. Edward Sri
St. Cecelia Church is pleased to offer this newly published 5-week study. The timing couldn't be more perfect with the coming of the new translation of the Mass taking effect this Advent. Although this study doesn't primarily focus on the changes, they are incorporated in Dr. Sri's discussion of the Mass as he breaks it down into distinct parts, giving its Biblical and spiritual background. Besides a workbook and text, you will also receive a booklet entitled A Guide to the New Translation of The Mass. $25.00
October 17/18 to November 29/30
A Quick Journey Through the Bible: The Bible Timeline by Jeff Cavins
This study covers the 14 narrative books of the Bible, telling the story from Creation to Christ & His Church. The class will provide you with a clear picture of Salvation History and connect all those Bible stories you probably know, but can't put together in a meaningful way. It will help you to see God's plan in history as it is fulfilled in Jesus Christ. It will give you confidence to read the Bible on your own and to have the basic background for it all to make sense. $25.00 for workbook, timeline, bookmark, etc.
January 9/10 to March 26/27
Psalms: The School of Prayer by Jeff Cavins, Sarah Christmyer, and Dr. Tim Gray
From the historical books of the Bible, we move to making the story personal, to revealing Israel's response to God's covenant and serving as a model for our response to Him. Psalms tell the inner story from a deeply personal perspective of one who is seeking God. Learn how Psalms can inform and transform your prayer. $25.00
